Why Men Can Only Do One Thing At A Time and Women Never Stop Talking by Allan + Barbara Pease . A book i actually bothered to spend the time to read through in the hope of getting some knowledge of how the opposite sex operates, and also to understand why we men have been stereotyped to be seen as creatures which can only do one thing at a time. Well, here’s my review on the entire book.

“Why Men Can Only Do One Thing At A Time and Women Never Stop Talking“ contains a total of 120 pages (at least in this small hardcover book) and right off from the introduction, i can tell it’s a book that lives off the general stereotypes of men and women and with this method, it is able to reach out to the general public out there who have problems understanding the rituals and practices of the opposite sex.  Here’s a short excerpt of the Introduction it has.

They live in different worlds, with different values and according to quite different sets of rules. Everyone knows this, but very few people, particularly men, are willing to admit it.

Effective, To A Certain Extent

Alright, i have to admit, this book doesn’t exactly help you understand and come to grips with your girlfriend, as each person is really different and has a different set of characteristics. However, this book does help you understand them much better generally with it’s blanket-style covering views. And since our world thrives on various stereotypes, this actually does help you understand the behavior of quite a number of people of the opposite sex, and even those of the same gender sometimes.

What i like about the book  is that it’s split into left page – women, right page – men. So it provides a really neat set up in contrasting the two different behaviors / qualities of women / men.

Some Women & Men Facts In The Book

“Why Men Can Only Do One Thing At A Time and Women Never Stop Talking” has a whole host of interesting articles. Here are a few that i find particularly interesting.

Women fact – “In a room of fifty couples it takes the average woman less than ten minutes to have analysed the relationship between each couple in the room. She can see who’s who, what’s what and how they’re all feeling.”

Men fact – “It’s not that men are insensitive to the small details. Their brains just aren’t organized to pick up the non-verbal signals that allow women to notice small details and changes in the appearance of others.”

Women fact – “A woman talks to show participation and build relationships. If a woman is talking to you a lot, she likes you. If she’s not talking to you, you’re in trouble. For a woman, speech has a clear purpose;  to build relationships and make friends – not to solve problems. A woman can spend two weeks on vacation with her girlfriend and, when she returns home, telephone the same girlfriend and talk for another two hours.”

Men fact – “For men, not talking is perfectly natural. For men, to talk is to relate the facts. Men see the telephone as a communication tool for relaying facts and information to other people, but a woman sees it as a means of bonding.”

There’s are many many more of these facts in the entire book, with various interesting explanations ( i personally don’t agree with some ) and theories that guides them. However, after reading through the entire book, i have to admit that the majority of the theories in the book are true to a large extent of women and men and it has (not sure how much) helped me better understand the behavior of women.

Conclusion

There, a nice little review and preview of “Why Men Can Only Do One Thing At A Time and Women Never Stop Talking“. All in all, it’s a pretty good book if you don’t wish to sit through three years of human behavioral studies to better understand  the opposite sex better. It sums up everything in nice neat articles with the men and women articles arranged side by side to assist you in your compare and contrast methods. I’d hugely recommend checking the book out and having it as a little quick reference bible if you wish to understand the opposite sex much better without committing years of your time studying them.
