There are many stances for men when they’re standing up, the folded arms stance, the hands by the hips stance, the hands behind the back stance (Morpheus from The Matrix) and the cowboy stance. Now, the question is, which of this stance is the best stance to show off your confidence? Below we shall do a detailed analysis on each stance and at the end, conclude which stance is the best stance to show off your confidence.
The Folded Arms Stance
The folded arms stance, no doubt fierce looking, however, that is all it ever is going to be. When your arms are folded, it symbolizes you shutting out yourself from everyone, a barrier, so to speak, that blocks yourself from the world. Also, the act of ‘hugging’ yourself shows a bit of insecurity that exists within you. Don’t get me wrong, crossing your arms doesn’t mean you’re insecure, it simply suggests that you are, whether you in fact are or not.
So quite simply put, the folded arms stance is not the way to go to show off that huge amount of confidence, whether imaginary or not, that exists within you. (: So moving on, we now analyze The Arms By The Hips stance.
The Hands By The Hips Stance (Superman / Barack Obama Stance)
Some say it was made famous by Superman, some say it was Barack Obama, regardless of who made it famous, whether it is the super power of the world or the super power of America, one thing remains certain, that it looks stupid unless you intend to take off into the air the very next minute (which is why Superman for me wins this mini-duel). Sure, you display an incredible amount of confidence when using this stance, however, it has crossed over into over-confidence, arrogance, for me. You’re not going to win any hearts with this stance, unless, again, you can fly. (:
Now, on to the Hands Behind The Back Stance, made famous by Morpheus in The Matrix.
The Hands Behind The Back Stance ( Morpheus from The Matrix)
[The Matrix fan filter : There's a reason why Morpheus always reacts the slowest and gets hit the first when Agent Smith comes out, it's because his hands are perpetually folded behind his back wherever he walks and are all tangled up when he tries to release them to react to anything. No doubt smart looking when he's walking, but really stupid looking when he's sent flying through the air, oh goodness]
Anyway, yes, The Hands Behind The Back Stance. Can be pretty smart looking, confident too, but studies show that such a stance of hiding the hands from people suggests that you are perhaps hiding something from them even when you are not. This creates a very suspicious look for yourself. There’s a reason why politicians put their hands in front of themselves, rested on the stand, to symbolize that they have nothing to hide from the people they are addressing. Once again, don’t get me wrong. You may not be hiding anything when having your hands behind your back, but it just symbolizes it and people’s subconscious minds might register that you are. So this stance = not advisable.
The Cowboy Stance
The Cowboy Stance, hands pointing to the crotch, not too arrogant and shut out like the folded arms stance, nor too aggressive like the Superman stance. This stance strikes the perfect balance between confidence, arrogance and humility. Yes, if you haven’t figured it out by now, this is indeed the best stance for all men. (: Try not to keep your hands in the pocket, having your thumb hooked there would be perfectly fine already, as having your hands completely in your pocket would once again, symbolize that you are hiding something (recall hands behind the back stance) even if you may not be.
So the next time you’re standing half awkwardly waiting for the train and not knowing where to place your arms, recall the Cowboy stance and use it. It’ll speak volumes of your confidence, whether it be imaginary or not, that you have and make you look twice as good as Morpheus and half as aggressive as Superman. (:
Have any differing views or different stances you might want to suggest? Well, comment below and i’ll update the post to include it if deemed appropriate
Yours sincerely,
